The IEEE International Environmental Engineering Conference is the flagship conference of the IEEE Environmental Engineering Initiative (IEEE EEI), a multidisciplinary joint effort across the whole IEEE directed to foster knowledge dissemination and innovation in environmental engineering and to promote a sustainable future for the environment.

The Communications and Computing (ComCom) technologies sectors are currently focused on exploring different technological challenges, such as increasing the speed, maximizing the available capacity, and in general improving the performance of communications systems. However, little attention has been paid so far to the role of ComCom towards sustainable development. For example, the forthcoming 5G technology is mainly devoted to urban areas, while the development of such technology in rural and low-income zones is not yet considered. Additionally, more than two billions people still lack an Internet connection, and relatively low number of initiatives are being put into place to invert this trend.

This Special Track on Communications and Computing for Sustainable Development Goals (ComCom4SDGs) dedicates itself to explore the role and impact of the transformational power of ComCom for making our world more sustainable: saving energy and material resources by creating more value from less physical input, increasing quality of life for ever more people without Compromising future generations ability to meet their needs. In this context, the United Nations General Assembly have proposed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a list of actions over the next fifteen years in areas of critical importance for the humanity and the planet. The goal of the ComCom4SDG Special Track is to pursue these goals in all areas from communications and computing perspectives. Papers related to ComCom for SDGs in a broad sense such as SDGs by ComCom, SDGs in ComCom and their overarching aspects, and especially papers developing SDGs, are welcome.

Topics include (but are not limited to) the following goals:

- Sustainable backbone networks/cellular network or data centres
- Sustainable big data communications and networking
- New paradigms to improve the network sustainability: softwarization, Internet of Things (IoT), device-to-device, cloud, fog and edge computing
- Networks elements and storage units powered by renewable sources
- Sustainable architectures and transmission technologies for increasing the connectivity in rural regions
- Sustainable UAVs-services and network-services
- e-Health applications for rural zones and challenged networks
- e-Education applications for rural zones challenged networks
- Emergency services in rural zones
- Case-studies results from the application of networks and services for improving the SDGs
- Measurement of sustainability including metrics and benchmarks in networks and computing resources.

IMPORTANT DATES
Extended abstracts deadline (at least 2 pages): JANUARY 15, 2018
Acceptance/rejection: JANUARY 31, 2018
Registration and payment deadline: FEBRUARY 20,2018
The accepted papers will be included in the program only if at least one author registers and pays the registration fee (IEEE member and non-member fees only are acceptable to this purpose) - no exceptions.

Final manuscript deadline (at least 5 pages): APRIL 15, 2018

IMPORTANT NOTICE: An accepted paper will be included in the post-conference proceedings only if it sufficiently expands the submitted extended abstract, if at least one author registers and pays the due registration fee by the deadline, and if one of the registered authors presents the paper in person. Only papers included in the post-conference proceedings will be submitted for possible inclusion in the IEEE Xplore digital library. If an author covers more than one accepted paper with her/his registration to guarantee inclusion in the proceedings, she/he must pay a surcharge of 50 US$ for each paper in excess of one.
